MFI = My Free Implants or in this blog, My First Impression. . . A real girl’s blog about her first time on site.

The day I decided I wanted implants, I also knew I didn’t want to take a loan on them. I sat at my computer researching, type, size and countless before and after photos as we all do when we fall down the boobie rabbit hole. On a whim I googled the words, “implant sponsors”. When “MyFreeImplants.com” came back in the search, I laughed thinking, “what stupid chick falls for that scam?!” . . .but clicked on the link anyway. As I started perusing the site, looking at blogs, and most specifically staring at the “leader boards,” I began to understand the concept, and immediately realized that MFI was an incredible and unique idea. I kept looking, seeing the countless girls bragging about their new twins and pictured myself one day at the top of those lists. I developed MFI envy. I set up my account that very minute.

I didn’t have a single photo to upload for my profile pic, or my model # photo. I knew that I was going to have to get very creative because of my particular situation. I was thousands of miles from home in a war staging arena in Kuwait on deployment as a civilian with the US military. I had no close friends to photograph me and absolutely nothing attractive to wear. That night as I finished my duties I racked my brain, to find a solution to my photo/video problem.

I went back to my apartment and saw that before I had even uploaded a profile pic, I had 3 emails from fellas welcoming me to the site and requesting a photo. Stoked was not the word! Those initial messages cinched it for me. I knew then that the donors were real people, I knew they were out there, and I knew they wanted to spend time with quality, ambitious, and fun women. aka. their dream girls.

Before I even logged in to begin writing back, I got a marker, and wrote my model number on my forearm and downloaded a camera timer app for my iphone. I took a few snapshots, setting the ten second timer and running back to my bed, diving into the blankets, trying to look like I had been snuggling for hours and wasn’t out of breath. By the time I got a few decent photos I had worked up a solid sweat. I uploaded the pics to my shiny new MFI profile and set in returning each email with a personal message thanking them for their interest, asking questions relating to each man’s profile and introducing myself. I knew if I was to make friends it would not be through quantity spam style mass messaging. I took time reading each man’s profile and targeted guys that I would usually hit it off with face to face. I found men whose profiles made sense to me, I giggled at or shared things in common with and reached out to each. I believe now, although that process was time consuming and painstaking I had an 8 out of 10 return on each message because of it. Even if a relationship didn’t develop I usually got at least single responses. I WAS ADDICTED. I fanatically returned every message no matter how short or what the content. Every dollar message was like a golden lottery ticket to me.

As I met benefriends and started to retain them, i.e. video chatting daily, I would ask them pointed questions about Hall Of Famers. What worked for them? What didn’t work? What were realistic goals for my time expenditure? How did they think I stacked up so far and how could I improve? I kept an open mind and knew that the only thing I knew for sure was that I didn’t know jack!

From the beginning I invested every spare moment I had. MFI became an extracurricular, my favorite social network, my second job and eventually my greatest comfort on deployment. In short, MFI and I fell in love at first sight.

With the exception of our first few months of operation, our policy at MyFreeImplants.com has been “implants only” when it comes to breast surgery fundraising. Over the years this has left a lot of women looking for an implant-less procedure unable to use the site. But implants are not necessarily the only good solution for breast augmentation. That being the case, we now have two additional options for ladies creating a new surgery goal on the website.

Breast Lift Without Implants: In the past we’ve made it a requirement that a lift include implants, but this does not always match up with patient desire or medical necessity. With the latest techniques such as Auto Augmentation, lifts are producing “perkier” results and can even add volume to the breast.

Fat Transfer/Grafting: This technology has been used for decades in plastic and reconstructive surgery, but has recently been applied on a large scale to aesthetic breast augmentation. The results of this procedure can vary widely (as the body absorbs fat over time), and women should not expect more than a cup size increase. That being said, there have been thousands of successful fat transfer procedures, and we’ve had hundreds of women contact us regarding fundraising. The increase in demand coupled with the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) conclusion that fat grafting for breast augmentation and correction is safe, encouraged us to add this type of breast augmentation procedure. We strongly urge anyone considering this procedure to research it carefully in order to understand what kind of results can be expected.

As always we suggest you contact a board certified plastic surgeon to find out which procedure is best for you.

Specific Details and Rules:

1) Surgery reason can be set (and searched for) as Medical or Aesthetic

2) Surgery goals include four (4) procedures to choose from

a) Breast Implants (implant type is irrelevant now)
b) Breast Implants + Lift
c) Breast Lift Only
d) Fat Transfer Breast Augmentation

3) Procedure type will display on profile and be searchable.

4) Surgery procedure changes while fundraising are permitted. Although, any change in procedure type after a goal has been reached (while in Hall of Fame) will need to be approved by MFI management.

5) Raise only what you need! Funds raised above your ACTUAL surgery cost are not transferable to an additional procedure or new account.

Please consult our terms of service for the full website rules and details on returning for additional surgeries.

If you’re receiving a surgery payment in any other currency than the U.S. Dollar there are some important things you must understand. Firstly, rates can change dramatically from day to day. Unless you’ve been on Mars for the past few months you’re probably aware that the financial markets have been quite unstable. All this instability has led to massive changes in ladies goals ($50-$100/day) The good news is your goal is automatically updated daily based on the latest exchange rate + bank transfer fees. That way you goal stays accurate until you reach Hall of Fame.

But what happens when you reach Hall of Fame and can no longer earn more, but due to rate changes you need additional funds? Here is what we recommend at each stage

Waiting for papers:
Do nothing. While waiting the 30 days to download papers you may see devaluation of the dollar, and therefore show a balance remaining to be earned, even though you’re still in Hall of Fame. Don’t panic, it will probably go back up. Do not contact us at this point.

Ready to download papers:
Write us if you show a large remaining balance. We would classify this as more than $100 U.S. dollars under your goal (or +2%). We’ve seen large drops in the U.S. dollar so if you’re even close to these amounts contact us. At this point we can take you out of Hall of Fame to earn the difference, while you send us your papers. Chances are you will reach your goal by the time we finish your review and be ready for payment without any delay.

Post Review Payment Process
When we receive your papers, and conduct your review, if you have finished raising the additional funds (or are close) we will make payment immediately. Important: Due to the above mentioned instability, we will fast track foreign payments. If you see a women receive a payment before another lady who sent papers in earlier, don’t be alarmed or upset. In order to protect against further currency devaluation we will make payments immediately, and not issue a payment agreement for a future date (I did this twice today). Everyone will still get their payments in a timely fashion, you just may notice a bit of leap frogging.

FAQ’s:

Q: Why is MFI’s currency conversion higher than I see on the Internet?

A: Rates you see on sites like XE are called “mid market rates”. What the hell does that mean? Banks make money by charging a higher rate to buy a currency than they paid for the currency initially. This is called the “Spread”. For instance, today XE gave me a rate of 1.625 when sending a wire in UK pounds (from Dollars). But when I went to make the wire with my bank, I paid over 1.677 + a $45 wire fee! This is why model goals are higher when covered on MFI. Sites like XE.com don’t account the banks transfer fees (profit) when customers make currency swaps.

Q: Will MFI cover minor currency devaluations so a model doesn’t have to come out of Hall of Fame?

A: Yes, of course. We do it all the time. The amount we’ll cover depends on the total goal amount. Please contact us regarding your specific situation.

Q: I’ve heard of the ability for banks to lock in rate for future currency transfers. Why doesn’t MFI lock the the rate once a model reaches the Hall of Fame?

A: We would love to lock in rates for future trades. Unfortunately, we have been denied trading accounts at half a dozen banks such as XeTrade, Forex, EverBank, HSBC, etc. This has nothing to do with our excellent financial standing or credit worthiness, but it has everything to do with our business. Providing women with free breast augmentations online somehow makes us high risk, regardless of our financial history.

Q: The U.S. Dollar keeps losing value! Why don’t you buy other currencies that you frequently use, and hold it for future payments?

A: See above. This is something several multinational banks offer, and could be an option for us but we’ve been limited by our business model. Foreign currency holdings would also increase the complexity of our surgery payment process, but we’ll continue to analyze options in the marketplace.

…a stay at home mom named Suzie joined MyFreeImplants with the goal of obtaining free breast implants. Exactly 1461 days later she achieved that dream. When she began her journey the site had only 25 women in the Hall of Fame and I knew all of them on a first name basis. Since then we’ve seen more than 750 women reach HOF, none of which were Suzie. Her story is as much about perseverance and hard work (she wrote 861 blogs) as it is about the power of friendship. Upon initially reaching her goal in August 2010 and having a consultation, Suzie discovered she would need $3500 additional funds, more than twice her current balance. Yet in just 8 more months she reached her new goal of $6500 through generous donations from her already established group of friends.

Congrats on your amazing achievement and we wish you a safe day in surgery!

“I Love My Implants, But I Wish I Went Bigger” By Dr. Ted Eisenberg

There’s a lot of conversation online about women wishing they had chosen larger implants. In my experience with 4,800 breast augmentation patients, I’ve identified four circumstances that commonly lead women to say, “I wish I would have gone bigger.”

1. Pulling back because you think other people will notice.
Many women are concerned that their implants will look fake and that people are going to notice that they “got work done.”

Implants can look obvious – and like half-basketballs – when they are placed in front of the pectoralis muscle and are covered only by skin and breast glands. With that placement, you can see the outline of the implant all the way around, including the part that’s peeking out of a bathing suit, tank top, or bra. That’s the giveaway.

I always place implants subpectorally, which means that the upper half of the implant is behind the chest muscle and the lower half is behind the breast gland. That way, the part of the implant that peeks out is covered by muscle and skin and looks more natural. Most doctors choose this placement as well.

Patients tell me that their closest friends and family members often don’t notice that they got implants. They do notice that they look better, but they can’t put their finger why:
“New outfit?” “New hairstyle?” “Working out a lot?” “Just back from vacation?”
Unless you tell your friends or wear clothes that shout “I had a breast augmentation!” you can keep it a secret.

2. Being misled by before and after photos.
The problem with picking your implant size from online photos – besides the fact that the woman might be a different height, weight and starting breast size – is that pictures are often not labeled, and you may not know how far along she was in the healing process. You might be looking at pictures that were taken three months after surgery, when the implants were only 80 percent settled. At this point, they look bigger because they are pressed up high, like breasts look in a push-up bra. When the implants are fully settled at nine months, the breasts will have the illusion of looking smaller, and they’ll look even smaller in clothes. So choosing from a 3-month post-op picture is deceiving.

3. Shopping “cup size” instead of “breast look.”
By and large, (pun intended) women say they want to be a full C cup – but not a D! They have a preconceived notion that a C would proportional on them and a D would be the size of their grandmother’s bra. What most women want is to be in proportion, and they think that means a C cup.

I prefer to call it a C “look,” because bra cups sizes are variable and misleading. A C cup means one thing when made by Warner’s and another when it’s made by Victoria Secret.

To achieve a C “look,” a 5’1” tall woman with a small frame might need a B cup, while a 5’8” tall woman with a large frame might need a D cup.

During consultations at my office, I show prospective patients before and after photographs of women who started out exactly like them in height, weight, frame size, and breast volume. It’s like looking in a magic mirror of the future. Women tell me “too big,” “too small,” and “just right.” They consistently pick the same number of ccs. Each photo notes the size of the implants used, so I know what to order to give them the look they want on their body.

When we’re all done, they ask, “What cup size is that? If I say D, the woman often says, “I don’t want to be a D. Show me something smaller.” This is where they get into trouble. The letter doesn’t matter; it’s the look you’ve chosen, and it looks right to you.

4. Second-guessing yourself, or listening to your girlfriends.
When your girlfriend tells you that her 400 cc implants are too big and you should get 375 instead, cover your ears and disregard her well-meaning advice. The difference between a 375 and a 400 cc implant is less than 2 tablespoons – the amount of oil you’d add to your pancake mix. And unless your friend measures exactly the same as you, you’re not comparing apples to apples.

The solution? Trust yourself, and know that you’ve chosen the look that is right for you.

Dr. Ted Eisenberg is a Philadelphia plastic and reconstructive surgeon whose practice is focused solely on cosmetic breast surgery.

Still didn’t get that awesome SLR camera you’ve been dreaming about from Santa? Hope is not lost, you can still get great photos from your cameraphone while you wait until next year! In the final segment from Lifehacker with tips on how to take better pictures with your smartphone camera, below are some editing hints on how to improve your photos after you have downloaded them to your computer.

While you may be better off tweaking your app settings before taking photos, you can always make a picture look better with a few simple edits to cover up some of your cameraphone ‘s shortcomings.

You don’t need Photoshop to pull these off, you can use these tweaks in most photo editing programs. Two programs you can find online are Paint.NET and GIMP. You can also use iPhoto, or even make the edits in many camera apps if you need to do it on the go.

Salvage Bad Photos with More Extreme Edits

1. Tweak the Color Levels

While some cameras (such as the iPhone) have good color, others (like the Droid) do not. If you have tried adjusting the white balance or flash and still are not getting good results, you can tweak the color levels to make a significant difference.

Start by placing your picture into your favorite photo editor and locate the color settings. In GIMP, for example, go to Tools > Color Tools > Levels. In iPhoto you can click on the Edit button at the bottom of the window and then hit Adjust to bring up the color level HUD. In order to give skin tones a more natural look you can raise the red level a bit, and similarly you can fix any exposure or contrast issues you still have in the photo with a little experimentation of levels.

2. Go Black and White

If tweaking the color levels isn’t helping the photo, you can always turn your picture into black and white, or sephia. This can help salvage a dull photo that may have some major color issues, and make the lack of color more intentional and less like you are just using a bad camera.

A lot of camera apps allow you to take black and white photos, but remember that you can always make a color picture black and white after the fact – but you cannot make a black and white photo color again. If you cannot decide, you can always shoot two photos (b&w and color) and save yourself the time and trouble later on.

3. Embrace Your Camera’s Mediocrity

In the end, even with these tweaks, you may still be unhappy with some of your cameraphone’s photos, as most phones just won’t measure up to a point-and-shoot. This does not mean that you are left without options though. A lot of people enjoy using different camera apps, such as Hipstamatic for iPhone or FxCamera for Android, that mimic old, cheap cameras with digital effects.

These apps add a whole new dimension to your photos, giving them a lot of style by making them look like they came from a classic LOMO or Polaroid. It may be a strange trend, but it is hard to argue with beautiful results.

The apps mentioned are only a few, but both the iPhone and Android have a lot of great options available (and a lot of them are free too). Be sure to check out Lifehacker’s favorite photography apps for iPhone and Android to see some more.

Not all of these tips will be applicable in every situation or with every smartphone camera. It will take some experimantion on your part to find what works for you, but hopefully the tips will point you in the direction of better photos.

Following last week’s post outlining some basic rules of photography, these additional tips taken from Lifehacker discuss how to tweak your camera’s app settings to make the most of your pictures.

Depending on your phone and the camera app that comes with it, there may be a few settings you can adjust before taking a picture. You can go beyond the standard app that comes with your phone though by using a more advanced camera app, such as CameraZOOM FX for Android, or Camera+ for the iPhone. There are many apps out there, so you can shop around, but those two are recommended by Lifehacker.

Now, onto some tips:

Tweak Your Camera App’s Settings

1. Check Your Resolution

Most camera apps have a setting that allows you to take pictures at different resolutions. Low resolutions are good if you want to send a quick photo via MMS, but this will not produce a good quality image. If you want to take a high quality photo that you would like to keep around, you are better off taking it at a higher resolution. It’s a simple tweak, but something that you definitely want to check before you start snapping. You do not want to take a bunch of cool pictures only to find that once you put them on your PC that they are just 640×480. Something worth noting: some phones will automatically resize images when you email them, so make sure to send them at full resolution when quality matters.

2. Turn ON the Stable Shot Setting

Phones are difficult to keep stable while shooting photos and it can be hard to detect the blur of a shaky photo on a small screen. While you can always rest your elbows on something solid, enabling a stable shot setting in your camera app will help a great deal in taking a solid picture. This setting will use your phone’s accelerometer to measure how much you’re shaking the camera, and won’t snap the picture until your hand has been steady for a certain amount of time (usually about one or two seconds). Some apps even let you set the sensitivity of the stable shot, and your phone will wait until you’re barely moving to take the photo.

3. White Balance

Cameraphones are usually pretty good at detecting white balance, but when there is low light they can have trouble. The first thing you can do is allow the camera to adjust itself – if you just open the camera app and start snapping away you may get a very orange photo. Give your camera about 5 seconds to adjust itself and you might get a better-looking shot. You can also try pointing your phone at a different light source, which will adjust the camera to a different balance, then pop back to what you wish to shoot.

If you’ve given your phone a minute to adjust and the picture still looks off, you can try adjusting the white balance yourself. It can usually be set to one of a few different light settings, such as “daylight”, “flourescent”, or “cloudy.” Choosing a setting manually may give you a better result than the auto setting does.

4. Exposure

With the biggest problem of cameraphones being their inability to make up for low light, the exposure is one of the best settings to play with in low light/dim situations. Setting the exposure higher will let more light into the lens, which will likely give you a brighter, more vibrant photo. Exposure tweaks will often produce the biggest immediate improvement in your phone photos.

Up next: Post-editing to salvage bad photos.

Cameraphones have come a long way in the past few years, but they don’t always take the best quality photos on the first try. Depending on your cameraphone and the lighting conditions, the results often turn out to be dull or blurry photos that are barely worth looking at later on.

You can do better though!

With the following tips taken from Lifehacker, you will be able to take most cameraphone shots from forgetful to awesome with just a few tweaks. The article is a bit lengthy, so I will be breaking it into three parts, beginning with Part One:

Don’t Forget Basic Photography Rules.

1. Use Your Light

It is important with all cameras to make sure that your subject is facing the light source and you are not, but it’s even more important with cameraphones – as the phone’s biggest weakness is its inability to take good pictures in low light. This means that you generally will want to get as much light as you possibly can on your subject. This may require a little more thought and more moving around than with a point-and-shoot camera, but you and your pictures will be thankful in the end.

2. Clean Your Lens

While most people are good about keeping their fingers off of a traditional camera lens, it’s not as easily done with your cameraphone that you are in close contact with most of the day. A dirty lens will counteract any of the other tips given in this article, so give your lens a wipe down before you start snapping photos.

3. Avoid Digital Zoom

Digital Zoom is a useless feature, especially on a cameraphone. If you need to get closer to a subject, you are much better off stepping closer to them. If you can’t, you can always crop the photo later on, which is essentially all that digital zoom really does anyway. Remember: You can always crop down, but you can’t crop up.

4. Pay Attention to Your Flash

LED flashes have been hyped on recent smartphone cameras, but they’re not always all they’re cracked up to be. If you do not have enough light to work with, flash can ensure that you get a picture, but a lot of phones tend to use it more than necessary. Sometimes the white LED light can be really harsh and cause some unsightly overexposure. Even in lower light situations, you may find that turning off the flash will give you a better result. Try snapping a photo with a flash and one without if you are in doubt. The photo can always be tweaked in post-processing (editing), so it cannot hurt to give yourself some options.

If you find that a flash is needed, you can soften it by placing a thin white sticker over it, like a small piece of tissue or white label. You’ll still have some light from the flash, but the sticker will take away some of the harsh exposure that tends to make people look ghostly.

Now that you’ve got some basic rules under your belt, try them out and see if you can improve the photo production from your cameraphone. The next step will be tweaking your camera’s app settings, so stay tuned for Part 2!

Sarah recently interviewed with her local newspaper to land a spot as a Featured Girl on the MyFreeImplants home page. After seeing the interview, an Irish cosmetic surgery company contacted Sarah with an offer to pay for her entire breast augmentation procedure.

“I’m happy and I just want to thank you so much for making this really happen,” she expressed in an email Friday. “If I hadn’t have done that interview I’d never have gotten my boobs like this.”

Simply by spreading the word about MyFreeImplants, Sarah gained both media attention and a free boob job. As this is written, she has already been admitted into surgery and on her way to achieving her dream of full C’s.

A big thanks to Sarah for participating in the interview (and good luck with surgery!), and thank you to all that continue to spread the word about our community.

Building upon the recently released “My Opinions” feature we’ve just added a couple of tag clouds to the Search page. What is a tag cloud? Here’s how Wikipedia defines it:

A tag cloud is a visual depiction of user-generated tags, typically used to describe the content of web sites. Tags are normally listed alphabetically, and the importance of a tag is shown with font size or color. Thus, both finding a tag by alphabet and by popularity is possible. The tags are usually hyperlinks that lead to a collection of items that are associated with a tag.

So based on the popularity of things that people like & what they dislike, we are able to generate a tag cloud for MFI. Here’s a screenshot of what the ladies of MyFreeImplants like/dislike most:

If you go to the actual page (just go to the Benefactor/Model Search page and scroll down) you can click on any of the words in the cloud which will run a search for that term to show all of the people that share that same opinion. Hopefully this will help a lot more people find more people that have similar taste to each other — or different taste if that’s your thing.

The lists are completely dynamic so as you add more items to your “My Opinions” lists, and other people also add those items, the cloud will change to reflect the most popular values in real time.

Helpful Tip: To get the most out of this feature, you should generally use common words/spellings for things. So for example: “boobs” vs. “boobies” vs. “my boobs” vs. “big boobs” are all different tags. So using the more generic version of just “boobs” will probably hold more weight as more people will have the exact same spelling as you. Similarly if you put additional characters like “~*boobs*~ !!!!! ” that too probably won’t do you much good since NO ONE ELSE is going to spell it the same way and it will then be harder for people find you as a match!
