A Groupon that offered reduced price breast augmentation has been criticized and banned by the Advertising Standards Agency (ASA) in the UK.
Here is the initial offer from Groupon. “Today’s deal in Manchester. Today’s deal: £1,999 Instead of £5,000 for Cosmetic Surgery Such as Breast Augmentation and Rhinoplasty at Birkdale Clinic. View now. For £1,999,” said the emailed advertisement.
The deal only lasted for that day (which is normal for Groupon), and thus required that users would have had to make a hasty decision about whether they wanted the operation. In my opinion, plastic surgery is not something to make a less than 24 hour decision on. The ASA mentioned this in its summary, adding, “Further down the same page, the web page stated ‘Altering the physique needs a lot of careful consideration, a substantial amount of initial information and is better performed by someone who knows best’”
Groupon has responded to the criticism from the ASA and will now extend the purchase period of future deals involving plastic surgery.

Leave A CommentWhile I’m the first one to jump on a bargain, I don’t think the idea of half price surgery would sway me into getting a boob job. Not only that, but it does make you wonder how desperate the doctors are or why the dramatic increase in prices. A 10% off or even 20% off is one thing, but more than half off of the base price should raise a few eyebrows. I hope ladies are smart enough to “shop” for doctors based on credentials and their results and not solely on prices.
I’d stick with Groupon deals for 60% off veggie burgers and microbrews.
I totally mis-read the name of the company.
Move along. Nothing to see here.
That was meant to be “dramatic decrease”.
I like Groupon as a site, but I think they were wrong to offer this particular offer.
This would be one of those type things that would make me say, wonder what kind of silicone their using lol
