According to a recent survey conducted by ADSAM and SenseUS polling companies, about 60 percent of surveyed physicians feel more comfortable and confident about the safety of breast implants and facial injections than the use of over-the-counter diet pills.
The same survey showed that feelings about having breast augmentation or facial injections created fear and stress among the large majority of consumers. Although consumers showed some apprehension about over-the-counter diet solutions, the survey results indicated that they were more comfortable with diet pills than cosmetic procedures.
Jon D. Morris, CEO of ADSAM believes that these results could have a significant impact on the plastic surgery industry. The survey results essentially show that, “a large number of Americans have a negative feeling towards cosmetic procedures despite physicians feeling good about them,” he said.
It is interesting how the perceptions of consumers regarding the safety of diet pills versus cosmetic procedures varies so differently from that of physicians. Ultimately, consumers were more willing to reach for over-the-counter solutions than going under the knife, while physicians feel the latter is actually safer.
