Okay, so I’m sure this has been overdone by now – but I figured a News blog might go well with all of the blogs written by the MFI ladies regarding the new viral breast cancer awareness campaign currently underway on social networking sites.
An article from The Washington Post described yesterday how, on networking pages across the globe, “hundreds of thousands of women were freely, willingly, even gleefully sharing the color of the bras they were wearing – without really knowing exactly why they were doing so.”
For breast cancer awareness, right?
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation didn’t really care where the “chainletter” began, they were just pleasantly surprised by the response they encountered from the web phenomenon they didn’t completely understand. In one day, the amount of subscribers to the Foundation’s fan page increased by 1000 times!
Likewise, The American Cancer Society, saw an increase in interest about breast cancer, but were slightly more defensive about the bra color postings stating that, “[They] are not behind it.”
In fact, no one even knows who is behind it.
Though we should all always be aware of breast cancer, this month (January) is in fact the Cervical Cancer Awareness month. On that note, let me take the words from a wise member of the site and say, “Shouldn’t you be posting the color of your panties instead?”
