Discrimination & The Harley Medical Group
by Jay: MyFreeImplants on December 1st, 2009Our customer Michelle, a married mother of 4, recently completed her consultation for a breast augmentation with The Harley Medical Group and was given a price quote of £4275 GBP (Great Britain Pound). On Nov 10th, when our company attempted to wire The Harley London Clinic £4275 GBP, they refused to take payment because the funds were raised on MyFreeImplants.com. After several attempts on our behalf to contact the office manager and receiving no response, The Harley London Clinic informed the patient Michelle that she would need to find someone else to complete her surgery.
Since 2005, MyFreeImplants.com has funded over 70 breast augmentations in the UK. Not one of those surgeons has ever refused to take our payment. We find it ironic that The Harley Medical Group refused to complete the surgery for a married mother of 4, but had no problem accepting payment from admitted drug addict Amy Winehouse, just one month ago.
The good news is Michelle was able to easily find another clinic that was more than happy to work with her. Although the actions of The Harley Group are not illegal, they are highly discriminatory and we feel the public should be aware. If you agree, feel free to contact the surgery coordinator Karen: chelmsford@harleymedical.com, who is responsible for denying our payment. If you choose to do so, we urge you to be professional in your complaint as you represent a community of thousands.

Or if you’d prefer you can try posting a comment on their company blog here.

Sounds like politicians in our government. not interested in helping the best interests of the common people, but be a celeb, have tons of $$$ or GBP and they are all ears, attentive and with open arms.

How should correspondence to them be worded? I’ll be happy to let them know what I think of their actions but I want to make sure I say it the right way.

Jason and Jay you crack me up. Not only do I agree with you that they are discriminating but, I would have done the same thing. Jerks….Im glad she got her implants …lucky girl *s*

Did they give a reason why they would not accept payment from here?
December 2nd, 2009 at 12:53 am
@FoxFire79 – I would 1) Defend the community as being a legitimate, reputable place to fund a surgery, and unworthy of this sort of treatment 2) Tell them that their actions will result in obtaining zero of the hundreds of surgeries that will need to be completed by current and future UK clients.
@Ginger – No not one. They just called the patient and said they couldn’t accept payment. My emails were not returned and we haven’t investigated further.

I any future MFI promotions/media coverages in the UK, announce these details and urge people to boycott having any surgeries done by them. Cite that leakage/defect and at a grossly inflated price of the botched enhancement for Ms. Amy as further reasons to be wary of the competence of The Harley Medical Group.

i dont see why harley medical wouldnt accept payment from mfi ,its still money at the end of it .mya were more than happy to take the money i raised from here .as for the amy winehouse bit thats a bit harsh a very close person in my life has taken that road and people do make opinion on it but addiction is an illness i think amy should be more as a role model to young girls and doing thins like getting filmed doing drugs is sending out the wrong message ,but i do agree harley should take payment from here its a brilliant site and im very luky to have come accross it JENNA

I understand the frustration that this girl went through with her surgeon not taking payment. I went through two surgeons in MY area who wouldnt accept it. One was atleast nice about it… the other was completely ignorant and unprofessional. It will be funny when MFI becomes a house hold name and a large majority of women use it to gain breasts.. and those surgeons will look stupid !!

We happen to have a lot of contacts with UK media (including nearly a dozen with the BBC) They have received a description of what happened. Hopefully they will take the information and run with it!
@Jessica – Yes Canadian surgeons are the most conservative in the world. Glad you have found someone to work with! Overtime I suspect they will begin to come around.
December 2nd, 2009 at 3:47 pm
I just sent them an email. I basically told them they should reconsider accepting payment because this is a strong community of people and the majority of women here are family oriented and couldn’t afford the surgery without the amazing benefactors here. I said some other nice stuff too. I’m sure they are getting so many Amy Winehouse emails that they will take weeks to get back to us. lol. Yeah, she did spring a leak. I heard it was because she had drugs in her system and it damaged the implant. *shrugs* either way, they come off as unprofessional and really really closed minded.

It might be possible that The Harley Medical Group has surmised their views of MFI from the bad reputation and image other surgeons based their refusals on when seeing all those inappropriate, crude, nude, and lewd default pics and display names form models that do not follow rules and ahve their own concept of what appropriate and ‘classy’ is.
It’s not as bad now, but it still happens now and then, even with more tamer headless body shots that should be a regular face pic, etc. IMHO those give a negative image of the site and adverse to the purpose of the default pic, so benes know who the person on the profile is.
Having multiple people on the default also adds to the confusion, particularly when almost all the profiel photos have more than one person and no indication which is the model.

I’m so sorry she had this experience, but I hope she will be treated with excellent care at her new surgeon’s office. Most importantly, I hope she loves her new boobs and has no issues recovering! Congrats to her despite the initial road bump.
December 3rd, 2009 at 6:11 pm
I’m sorry you guys had to go through this.
But.. Atleast she didn’t go to the same surgeon Amy Whinehouse did.
I work in health care, but are the rules different for elective surgeries? Also, I don’t know how the UK does things differently than the US. I’m pretty sure there is some way this is against the law. How could they turn her down without a medical reason?
Maybe we should right them a bunch of thank you e-mails?

Any friend of a crack whore is not a friend of mine. Sorry, I don’t promote drug users.. I don’t care how much money they have.
Just had to add that
December 3rd, 2009 at 9:20 pm
Hmmm.. I am wondering if they are extra paranoid due to the bad publicity from Amy Whinehouse and her leaking implant. I hope that they can get a grip on reality and realize that MFI is helping build us ladies up and making our dreams come true.
I am in Canada, and it is hard to find a surgeon here. I think the thing is they do not want to be linked or mentioned on the site.. I realize the do dancer, and prostitutes I am sure. The difference is they are not advertising the surgeon. That seems to be a big thing here. I had to promise my surgeon not to mention his name…
Cheers

hahaha Jay thats awesome!!
It must be nice to be the owner of a website …
Take that Harley Medical Group! Now you got MFI on your ass!
December 4th, 2009 at 3:29 pm
I wrote a comment on the site …

i think it would be helpful for us girls to have a list of which docters/surgeons do and dont accept mfi payment. not all the girls can have there surgery with the companys that are advertised here.
i have to have my op done in a mainstream hospital due to medical problem, but alot these places charge for the consult first,so,if they dont accept the mfi payment, thats money down the drain, and then i will have to pay for more consults until i finally get the go ahead to be able to have the surgery.
it would be easier if we knew which surgeons have accepted mfi, then we could go straight to them for a consult and it wouldnt be a waste of time or money.just a thort x
December 7th, 2009 at 10:46 pm
@KB… there is a list of surgeons availible on the website if you do not want to go through the hassle of finding your own.
December 9th, 2009 at 8:18 am
hi brit, unfortunatly the uk surgeons advertised are all for mya,who i cant go with, but thanks for the help anyways xx
December 27th, 2009 at 5:58 pm
Well their loss I say. I went through MYA, the first op in that clinic to be funded through MFI, and they were great. My surgeon has over 15 years od brest surgery experience and I am so happy with the results. Give the business to MYA or another more accepting company
