Gummy Bear Implants
by Drone on October 31st, 2009Cohesive silicone gel implants (aka Gummy Bear implants) may offer significant advantages over current implants in use in the United States but they do not yet have approval. They are in use in Europe and Canada.
Preliminary findings have shown that the implants are able to better conform to natural breast shapes, may have lower leak rates over time, and are less likely to cause capsular contracture in the first six years of use.
The study and waiting period continue, but there is hope they will be approved for use in the US soon.

They are available in clinical studies in the U.S.
The only downside is they are anatomical shaped and a little hard in my opinion. (I like the round look) You must sign a waiver and they compensate you when you go in.
I was going for these until my doc told me I could sign a waiver to get silicone. (since I’m not 22 yet) YAY

In Europe and Canada (and probably other places too) they are already approved. In the US they are considered a clinical trial. Not every doctor will be willing to offer them. The companies who manufacture them are still studying long term effects and are required by the FDA to do the following:
1) Conduct a large post-approval study (asking patients to undergo an MRI three years after surgery, and consistently every two years afterwards)
2) Continue their core studies for 10 years
3) Conduct a focus group study
4) Continue laboratory studies
5) Track each implant
The first one will have an obvious effect of requiring you to get MRIs. The others, with the likely exception of number 4, may also involve women who get cohesive gel implants.

I´m going to take Gummy bear Implants when I reach my goal.

@ txangel
Only really good experienced doctors offer them. They are available in the U.S., When you cut them in half they do not leak at all. I felt them they are harder and heavier. I asked the doc he said they are harder inside you then saline or silicone gel. These are cohesive gel. They are anatomical shaped so they arent round.
Oh and they are definitly a lot more than saline. Depending on what doc you go to my quote for them was 6,982?? If I remember correctly. I decided to go with just reg silicone and my quote is 6,298$.
Silicone will always be more expensive than saline.
But…they do compensate you for it. You gotta go in periodicly over the coarse of 10-20 yrs. You get paid a small ammount every time you go in.

Oh and MRI’s are ridiculously expensive… you have to pay out of pocket for that. But we gotta get them done

I had made my goal and went with the cohesive gel (aka gummy bears)400cc high profile…weighing less then 1 lbs each side.
I had my surgery 4 months ago now!! my implants were more expensive then saline or reg silicone(but think of how much longer they last), I did get the round effect with them!! My doc also told me they last so much longer also safer then the other implant types,He told me I may have to get them changed 40yrs from now.
I do not feel they are any harder then what my real breasts felt like…I was told many times (by friends, family, and husband) they feel so real and you would never know the difference.
As for the check-up I do have to go back to see my surgeon once a year,he told me this is for my 40yr warranty for my implants(free check-up)….but keep in mind I am in Canada and not to sure how different things may be in USA.

I got my implants almost exactly a year ago, and mine are cohesive gel. I didn’t have to sign any kind of extra paperwork, though my doctor did say that they discourage younger women from getting this type of implant. Mine are round and high profile. They look great and they move and feel like natural breasts. I went from a small B to a full D, or even DD in some bra styles. If your doctor does this type of implant, I HIGHLY recommend it.

@Bridget How did you get the round ones!! I thought they where only available in Europe!!
I would go with gummy’s if they where round…

When I first started here I had my heart set on gummy bears, mostly for the safety factor, you can take a knife and cut a gummy bear in half and you will have two half’s,it’s also true that they have a much harder feel to them, not very natural, ,but I keep hearing silicone implants called regular silicone, before 2006 the FDA had a ban on what is called regular silicone implants,in 2006 the FDA lifted the ban on silicone with the new style of silicone implant called the memory gel implant which is what I have now, the memory gel implant do pretty much the same thing as the gummy bears ,if you cut them in half they don’t leak they hold together, and they have a very natural feel to them,I cant even tell them apart from how my boobs felt before,I cant feel the implant inside me,they feel just like my real boobs, and the doctor told me that they should last me about 20 years,in my opinion the new memory gel implant is far better than the gummy bears my price for the gummy bears from a surgeon in NYC 8975.00 my memory gel implants 6000.00,it was a no brainer for me,I have memory gel implants, they are just as safe, fell 100% real and, less money, and mine look awesome……ELISA hof

Hello all.. I spoke to my surgeon before hand.. We did go cohesive, however, not the extra cohesive of the gummy bears.. these ones are great as they too can be cut in half. I at this point feel as if I am wearing solid padding.. tehehe they are only two days old.. I understand it takes a while to get them feeling like they are your own! I am excited and thanks Bridget! I can not wait to find out my final size..

Wow, Im the same ….I had High Profile Silicone Gel 395cc’s. Went from a B to a D cup. They are textured too which helps against capsular contraction. I take it they can only go under muscle like I have? . The way I feel it is….Like Ive had my muscle enlarged, and the breast is pushed forward lol. It must feel waaaaay different to have implants over muscle???…I dunno. I didnt have a lot of breast tissue anyway. You can definitly look round with the right bra. xxx

Hmm I must ask my doctor about this memory gel. Im pretty sure the one Im going with is because it was textured and felt like the gummys but a bit softer. I will ask him.
if theyre round im soo going for them!!
