Two Salina Central High School seniors designed T-shirts to raise money for breast cancer awareness, but an assistant principal banned one of the designs from school.
Haley Wenthe’s mother died from breast cancer five years ago, and Jessica Sheahon’s mom recently completed chemotherapy. So they set out to raise $10,000 during October, which was Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
But Assistant Principal Linn Exline told them that one of the designs crossed the line and she forbid the shirts from being sold or worn at school.
The shirts bear the phrase “Save 2nd Base” with a pair of baseballs over the wearers’ breasts. Officials said the shirts violate the district’s dress code, which bans clothing with an “implied indecent meaning.”

The girls explain that “2nd Base” refers to making out that involves touching girls’ breasts. The idea isn’t original — it’s the trademark of a Pennsylvania group named for a mother who died from breast cancer last year.

Leave A CommentWe have a local t-shirt for breast cancer that says “I Love Boobs” on the front of it. A boy at the high school wore it and was sent home. I understand we are in the Bible Belt here and the first message from the shirt seems sexual…but the idea is to make breast cancer an awareness….and I don’t think the school made the right desision.
It’s really great to see people promoting breast cancer awareness – as long as it’s legitimate and for the right causes only. There are too many entrepreneurs feeding off the “pink fad” right now, which is a shame.
I am working as a community ambassador with Pantene Beautiful Lengths and Million Inch Chain. Together we are trying to gather 1 million inches of hair and turn them into wigs. We plan on providing these wigs free of charge to women affected by chemo related hair loss. For a lot of women that lose their to cancer treatment, it can be very extremely difficult to deal with. Our ultimate goal is to support these women in their difficult struggle by providing them with the confidence boost they may need.
I’m asking if any women out there could please help out by donating to this very worthy cause. You can either donate your hair, or pledge to donate your hair at a later time. If you would like more information please visit this website.

Honestly, that is just ridiculous that they would ban the shirts.
You know it’s okay for students to walk around wearing shirts with celebrities and artists that promote violence and the wrong things, but these girls were trying to do something GOOD and standing up for the right things…
Well I still say, congrads to the girls!
This is stupid. I wear slayer shirts with upside down crosses on them to school, But god forbid cancer awareness!!! <- sarcasm.
